The painting was created in 1835 in England. In her Turner, through the great power of her romantic genius, recreates a common scene with working workers in a harbor. Although the theme of the painting is related to the dark reality of the industrial revolution, in Turner's hands, it becomes an image of astonishing visual poetry. A perceptible "flood" of moonlight flows through the clouds into a large dome that surrounds the banks of the canal and illuminates the sky and the water.
On the right, the boatmen and crates carrying the coal from Northumberland and Durhamdown the River Thyne were silhouettes of the orange and white flame flares. Coal is transferred to sailing ships. Behind these ships can be seen distant factories and ships, created light with touches of gray paint and several thin lines. Through fog, everything merges with reflections on the water in a richly shaped surface.
